Welcome John Nixon and Sue Cramer, Australia
As our first artist-in-residence visitors, we have invited internationally renowned Australian painter John Nixon and art historian Sue Cramer, curator at Heide Museum of Modern Art in Melbourne.
John Nixon, born 1949, has exhibited internationally since the early seventies and is known for his Experimental Painting Workshop EPW in which he conducts an ongoing experimental practice, rooted in constructivism and the non-objective. He has recently exhibited large installations in MGK, Ottendorf in Germany in 2017; Castlemaine Art Museum, in Castlemaine, Victoria, 2017, and the Auckland Gallery Toi o Tāmaki in Auckland, New Zealand 2017.
John Nixon has exhibited at several Danish museums during the 1990s and we are happy to welcome him back.
Sue Cramer has curated numerous exhibitions at various Australian galleries and museums including at the Australian Centre of Contemporary Art in Melbourne, the Institute of Modern Art in Brisbane, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. Her current exhibition at Heide is Call of the Avant-Garde: Constructivism and Australian Art.
We have set up a programme for Sue, with visits to a handful of Danish museums and institutions, whom we thank for their great collaboration.
John Nixon will work on a solo show to be presented in our space, and on a sound recording of new material with a choir for his ongoing music project The Donkey`s Tail.
Furthermore he will also do a wall painting on the outside wall
We will be taking research trips ,with a focus on late Danish Modernism and the experimental artscene in Denmark late sixties and contemporary.
